European Supremacy In Football - UEFA Nations League Final 2019
Yesterday night the final of UEFA Nations League took place in Portugal at Estadio do Drago between Portugal and Netherlands.Both the teams were excellent throughout the entire tournament and both teams worked really hard to reach the final of such a great European Tournament. Both the nations were hoping to win the Final but only one team could have won and achieve the title of Nations League.
Recently in the semi finals PORTUGAL defeated SWITZERLAND by 3-1 CRISTIANO RONALDO was declared as the man of the match as he scored the stunning Hat-trick followed by an extraordinary free kick outside the box.In this way Portugal made the journey to the FINAL.
Five time Ballon D'or winner putted his 100% in the semi final and led his team to the FINAL.
On the other side the second semi final was played between England and Netherlands. England scored early when they got the penalty in the 1st half of the game.The penalty was scored by the English young talent Marcus Rashford in the 32nd minute.The game was in the hands of English team at the end of the 1st Half.At the start of 2nd half the English team played the decent game and were looking forward to make their way to the FINAL which was held yesterday at Estadio do Drago on 9th of june 2019.
But in the 73rd minute the game was totally changed.Netherlands were pushing very hard into the game to qualify for the final and their hard work paid off.Whether it was the bad luck of England or either the good luck of Netherlands,whatever it was but the teenage skipper of Ajax Mathijs De Ligt scored the equaliser for his team to bring the hopes of crowed and his country back in the game.
After it a dramatical goal of Jesse Lingard was rejected by the VAR as he was in offside position.At the start of extra time in the 97 minute John Stones was the last man in the defence of England, he tried to snatch the ball from very talented Memphis Depay but he failed and the ball went to the keeper Pickford made an awesome save but Quency Promes reached the ball and made Kyle Walker to score an own goal.
As the game progressed the English team got frustrated and their defender Ross Barkley lost the ball at the edge of England penalty area box,Quency Promes took the advantage and scored his first international goal for Netherlands and took the lead to 3 - 1, the English team lost the match and got eliminated from the tournament while Netherlands made their way towards the FINAL to be held at Estadio do Drago in Portugal.
As England lost the Semi Final in the extra time due to its own errors in defending and gifted the match to the Netherlands.
After the Semi finals Portugal and Netherlands reached the final of UEFA Nations League.
At the beginning both the teams were in good positions and the defending duo of Netherlands, Van Dijk and De Ligt were not allowing the Portuguese strikers to hit at the the target.At the end of the first half the scorline was 0 - 0 .
While in the second half in the 60th minute of the game very young Portuguese star Goncalo Guedes,nutmegged De Ligt, and passed the ball to his teammate Bernardo Silva,who assisted the ball back to Guedes to score an amazing goal from the outside of the box.
Now Portugal was totally involved in the game and they defended their till the end of the match.Final whistle blows and the Portuguese is the Champion of UEFA Nations League 2019.Hard day for Netherlands they faced it patiently.
Portugal lifts the trophy,Ronaldo lifts his 2nd International trophy with Portugal.Before the debut of Ronaldo, Portugal had never made to the FINAL of an International tournament but with Ronaldo, Portugal had made to three International Cups Finals.Out of which Portugal has won two and Ronaldo has scored in every Semi final of these three International tournaments to lead his team to the Finals.
Now Portugal have two International trophies i.e, UEFA Euro 2016 and UEFA Nations League 2019.
Last night Ronaldo was named as the highest scorer of the Tournament.
The assist provider in the final Bernardo Silva was named as the best player of the tournament.
And the Netherlands,defender and skipper of Ajax, Mathijs De Ligt was named as the youngest player of the tournament.
